Our 2024 Whitsel family vacation is in the books. For the past few years we've been taking a big family beach vacation. We used to do this all the time but once Carly, Luke, and I went to college and started working we kind of got away from it. Then once I had kids we started making it a tradition again. The past few years we've gone to Sandbridge, VA but this year we tried Topsail Island, NC.
Our house was 4 stories and had an elevator in it! It was just built in the last year or two. The kids loved the elevator. It was the highlight of the trip. Our family had the top floor master suite which was nice because there was a king bed with a bunk room attached where the kids slept. We also had a huge bathtub which was fun!The island was pretty secluded and low key. It had local restaurants and was mostly filled with beach homes. We spent the week going to the beach during the day, hanging out around the house, and grabbing some local food in the evenings.
One night we had mexican food, one night we got Topsail Steamers which are steamer buckets you buy filled with seafood, corn, kielbasa, and potatoes. It was so good. The other nights we had pizza and went to a local family restaurant on the river.
We worked on a 1000 piece puzzle and played board games. (Never did finish that puzzle though)
This summer was the summer where Hudson learned to swim. We took 3 months of swimming lessons in the winter and we've been practicing all summer. He's really gotten good. It made the beach fun. Hudson loved going out in the water with Trevor and Luke. He also started body surfing and just having a blast in the waves.
Nora loves Uncle Luke!!
Overall it was such a nice week with great weather. The drive was my only complaint. Other than that, we had a blast!
