Hudson is ONE!

It is surreal to think that a whole year has gone by since Hudson was born. It feels like I took a nap with his newborn body and woke up to a little boy. One that constantly has dirt stains on his pants, loves balls and playing outside.

His actual birthday was in quarantine. I was disappointed at first to know that we wouldn't be having a big party for him around his birthday due to the coronavirus. However, we are going to try and plan something later this summer and it will be nice anyways because everyone will be able to hang out outside in our yard instead of being cooped up in our tiny house. Trevor was off work on his birthday and the weather was around 40 degrees with a rain/show mixture. Quite the drastic change from his actual birthday last year because it was in the 60s.

Since it was so cold and yucky outside we spent the whole day inside. Hudson and I have been in quarantine in our house for a month now and it's getting harder to keep him entertained. I ordered him a dodgeball that was delivered on his birthday and we had fun rolling it back and forth to each other. It was really cool to see how fast Hudson caught onto how to catch it and roll it back. It's so much fun to watch him learn new things as he gets older.

Because of the quarantine I also had to make his own smash cake. I was a little hesitant at first because I am for sure no baker, but I found the most amazing icing recipe, so the cake turned out great! We decided to do Hudson's cake smash on Zoom online and invite our family and friends to watch. At first, Hudson tried to crawl away from the cake. It wasn't until Trevor put his hand into it and he tasted it that he dug in! He DEMOLISHED that cake and ate soooo much of it! Trevor didn't even get a chance to get our own slices because he had his hands all over that thing. I really was surprised at how much he ate. He went straight to the tub after cake and then after his bath he had a slice of homemade pizza.

We also put a sign down at the end of our driveway that said "Honk for Hudson's 1st Birthday!" It was fun to hear people drive by and honk their horns because it felt like a little celebration with others for Hud. Quarantine is such a weird time.

I can't believe that Trevor and I survived a year of parenthood! It was both the fastest and the slowest year of my life. The whole year I kept thinking to myself, how do people do this with more than one child? How do some people have babies so close together? I'm drowning! But now that we are officially at the year mark I feel like I'm a professional. What's one more? ;) I'm trying hard to contain my baby fever over here.

Happy first birthday Hud!
