Back in the beginning of May, a house popped up on the market that I thought was sooo freaking cute and charming. I'm constantly looking at houses online and it's not often that one pops up that I truly love. Trevor and I weren't really looking for a house at all. In fact, ours needed some work done before we could even sell, so he was extremely hesitant. We decided to drive past the house for fun, and when we did he immediately shot the idea down.
About a week or two later, we met up with Clint and Chels to go on a walk. The place we were meeting up to walk at was actually right near that house again. I didn't think anything of it, but Trevor said, '"Hey want to walk by that house?" Us four walked by it and we all talked about how pretty it was and how it would be so cool if we bought it because then we would live close to Clint and Chels. After our walk, Trevor and I decided that we would call up a real estate agent to look at the inside.
We met up with Lisa, our agent, the next day. We went in and I immediately saw charm. This house was built in 1940 so it had some of the old woodwork, french doors, built ins, and a wood burning fireplace. The entire downstairs was carpeted but the owner said that there were hardwoods underneath the carpet.. meaning that the entire house was hardwoods throughout. Of course, the kitchen needed completely gutted and updated and there were other things we knew we would have to spend money on. But I saw so much potential and I could immediately picture us living there. The house is 4 bedrooms, 2 bath, and sits on 3 acres. At the end of the property line sits a small stream where deer and ducks frequent. I could picture Hudson and Timber both running through the yard, loving the space. The house is also in a very good elementary school district so that was an added bonus.
We went home that day and immediately started fixing our house up to sell. We didn't want to buy a house without selling ours first because we were afraid our current one wouldn't sell and we would be stuck with two mortgages. The thing was, our list was long. I had to call someone to hire to come out and fix some drywall and he wasn't available until the next week. I started packing up extra stuff we didn't use regularly.
Over Memorial Day weekend, our dream house got multiple offers on it and they took it off the market. Trevor and I were really bummed, but also could breathe a sigh of relief because we were scrambling around like nuts trying to get everything ready.
We went to the beach with Trevor's parents. I now had the moving bug and was ready to move, but every day I checked the houses online and there was nothing good. It was disappointing. We were planning on staying in our current home for another year and then looking again for houses next summer. I kept thinking to myself, I wish so badly that the house we love would come back on the market.
A month later I was just hanging out at home when my friend Brittany texted me, "Isn't this the house you wanted? It's back on the market!" It was! I couldn't believe it! I immediately called Trevor and texted our agent. I guess the previous buyers had lost their jobs, that's why it was back on the market. This time we JUMPED. We put in an offer that was contingent on our house selling, and a couple days later we put our house on the market.
Thankfully, it didn't take long for our house to sell at all. We had an offer the first day, 30+ showings in a week, and then we received an all cash offer. It's official, our house is sold and we close on our new one TOMORROW!
I'm so excited to share the house and house updates here on the blog. The first thing I'm going to do tomorrow when we get the keys is go in and start ripping the carpet up. We have a guy that is going to come out and hopefully refinish the floors before we move in. We have 9 days between when we close and when we have to be out of our current home. It's about to be a busy next week and a half!
