This past weekend Carly, Rayne, and I took the long drive to Nashville, TN to visit our favorite uncle! It took us about 11-12 hours to get there. We left at 2:30am on Thursday and after a stop at Bob Evan's for breakfast and a time zone change, we arrived in music city around 1:30pm. Uncle Doug and Megan were both working when we got there, so we hung out in their apartment while we waited for them to come home.
Their apartment is so cute! I found myself wishing I had a little apartment in Tennessee that I could live in and decorate with records and guitars. We ended up taking a nap on the couch then waking up and playing scrabble while waiting for Uncle Doug to come home. Once he got home he took us out to dinner at a local place called Burger Up which had the most delicious burgers! I got sweet potato fries with mine. We got lucky and got to sit on the patio outside. The weather was so nice. It was also pretty cool, while we were sitting outside, Hank Williams Jr's granddaughter walked by!
We also got some coffee drinks down the street from Burger Up at a place called Frothy Monkey. I'm a sucker for little local coffee shops.
That evening after dinner uncle Doug ended up driving us around Nashville to see the sights. We picked Megan up after she got off work and went to a local ice-cream place called Jenni's. They make their own waffle cones there and I was in heaven.
The next morning Uncle Doug took us on a hike around a lake in Nashville. The weather was perfect. We hiked almost 5 miles over the ridge and around the entire lake. It was a beautiful hike and perfect time to catch up with each other.
After our hike, we came home and showered then were right out the door again! Uncle Doug and Megan wanted to take us to more local places. We said that they were showing us the "nooks and crannies" of Nashville, which was so nice. For our trip, we really just wanted to see where their favorite places were to go and get dinner. It was awesome to see where the locals hung out.
For lunch, they took us to this taco place which originated from a food truck. The place was packed. They had the most delicious tacos and it tasted like authentic Mexican. I got a chicken taco and a tilapia one.
Yum yum yummmmm. After lunch we went to a couple local record stores and browsed the music. We went to this local chocolate place where they make their own chocolate and we tried some samples. Then we went to little shops in town and browsed. We went to a book store that only sold books written by local authors.
After that, we went to a popsicle place called "Las Paletas Gourmet Popsicles". The place was founded by two Mexican sisters who had memories of eating popsicles when they were kids. These popsicles were so good, and made with fresh ingredients. I got a strawberry banana pineapple one. It made me want to try to make my own popsicles homemade!
We might as well call this a Nashville foodie tour because actually all we did all 3 days we were there was constantly eat. That Friday evening, Carly, Rayne and I had never been to an Indian restaurant before so Uncle Doug and Megan took us to their favorite Indian place.
I honestly had no idea what any of the stuff was, but it was pretty good. We all got these Mango smoothie drinks which were to help cool your mouth off inbetween bites.
After dinner, we drove downtown to see the touristy side of Nashville. We walked on the pedestrian bridge across the river and admired the skyline:
While on the bridge, we witnessed a proposal which was soooo freaking cute. Also, Nashville just built a new riverfront stadium and Eric Church was playing, so we got to hear him play which was pretty cool. There's something about summer nights and live country music that makes your soul happy.
We walked around downtown which was nothing but pure madness, so we didn't stay too long. But we did stay long enough to get some more ice cream!
The next morning we woke up and got some breakfast at a place called "Fido" which was a local place that used to be a pet store but was transformed into a breakfast joint. It was pretty cool how they kept the "pet store" theme and incorporated it into their restaurant. I got blueberry pancakes and bacon which tasted super good.
We then explored the little shops around that area. I found this cat poem book that I am now convinced that I need:
Also saw this sign which I thought was pretty funny:
Please come back to Nashville Tay!
After exploring, Uncle Doug went to rehearsal for his show he was going to be performing that night, so Carly, Rayne, Megan, and I wandered off to the mall to shop a little. It was actually a madhouse and wasn't even enjoyable. I found that I loved looking at the little local stores around town more than the actual mall itself which was just insanely packed.
We went home and got ready, then headed down to Franklin, TN to Kimbo's Cafe to watch Uncle Doug play. I loved this night. We got some food and drinks and then listened to some really good music.
Ah. The trip was wayyy too short. I loved everything about Nashville, from the little shops to the neighborhoods that were lined with the cutest brick houses. I'm now convinced that I want to live there at some point in my life.
