Future kitchen renovations

Ever since we moved into our house last February, I've been dreaming of how we could make our kitchen exactly how I wanted it. I want a space that I just love to be in and cook in. I like to look at pictures of dreamy kitchens and my goal is to eventually turn our kitchen into our own little dreamy space as well. I'm also the type of person that plans and plans and thoroughly thinks things through before I tackle any kind of big renovation. I change my mind so often that I want to make absolutely sure I know what I want in a kitchen (or any other space) before I change it. I'm also this way with light fixtures and other furnishings.... I will browse Pinterest and home decor sites for months before I finally decide on something. What can I say, if i'm going to be investing in my home, I want to make sure I do it right and that it is exactly what I want. This is also why we barely have any art on our walls whatsoever, but I digress.

First, let me show you photos of our kitchen the way it looked when we first moved in.

Since then, I have painted the walls and the trim, added a dishwasher, and updated the appliances. This is what it currently looks like:
A little progress. Honestly, it is a nice kitchen... the cabinets are almost brand new (and Trevor LOVES them, he doesn't want me to change them at all), plus the countertops aren't horrible and the tile on the floor is also pretty new. This kitchen was updated in 2006-2007, so we were told. All of it is okay, but it just isn't me.

I have plans to paint the kitchen cabinets white (just gotta persuade Trevor first). Actually, I would love to paint the bottom cabinets a dark navy and the uppers white, but we gotta get different countertops first for that to happen. I also love open shelving and would like to take the cabinets down on both sides of the window to replace them with shelves. Here's some inspirational pics that give me all the feels:

I love how all of these kitchens seem light and bright while keeping their functionality.

Also: subway tile.
And a farmhouse sink.

Someday.
