It's become a tradition that every year Carly, Luke, and I help Grandma put up her Christmas tree (she has a fake one). We usually put on some Christmas music and eat some cookies too :) It's always a special thing that we do together.

A couple years ago, my great-grandma Anna (
the one that just turned 90) had open heart surgery. She had to be in a recovery home for a couple months to get better. Well, all of Grandma's time was spent taking care of Grandma Anna, so she didn't have time to put up her tree. It was sad. She called us and told us that she just wasn't going to put up the tree that year because she didn't have enough time.
Well, Carly, Luke and I all thought that was really sad. I mean, it isn't Christmas without a Christmas tree! So we decided to be a little sneaky. We waited until Grandma and PapPap went to church on a Wednesday night. Luckily, special little grandkids like us know exactly where Grandma keeps the spare key. So we went into her house, brought up the tree from the basement, put on some Christmas music, moved around the furniture, and decorated her tree while they were gone. We even got out her camera and took a few pictures of the decorating process for her:

Well, Carly and I decorated the tree. Luke was too busy eating nuttibuddies!

Tada! The final product.
We cleaned up everything and snuck out of the house. That night we got a call from Grandma, but we couldn't really understand anything she was saying. She was crying too hard! She told us that what we did was incredibly nice and thanked us. It made us so happy to make her happy.
I think that's what Christmas is really about, helping others out and making others happy. I put a lot of thought into my presents this year, and I'm a lot more excited to give presents than receive them. |

i couldn't agree more- i think as we get older it is so much more rewarding to give than to recieve- thats really something that my future kids to enjoy too!
