What it's like to live without furniture

We just bought a house in February of this year. And with the house purchase came purchases of a bunch of brand new furniture: a brand new king sized bed with a frame, a huge sectional couch, a new dining table and chairs, a large 11x13 shag rug in our living room. And when we moved to New Mexico, we couldn't bring any of it. Really, we didn't want to haul all that stuff anyways. It was a big enough pain getting into our house the first time.

When we moved here, we knew we had to find a place that was furnished. We looked and looked and honestly, we just had trouble finding a place in general. When we finally found out house, it was unfurnished and we knew that renting furniture from somewhere would get pricey. Hey, we were moving to the desert to save money, not spend it.

We bought an air mattress from Walmart that we intended to sleep on for 13 weeks. When we told our landlord this, he made us repeat what our plan was. You are going to sleep on THAT for 13 weeks? He started laughing, then offered us a full sized bed that he had in his basement that still had the plastic on it. We had never been so grateful for a rock hard, tiny, full sized bed in our lives.

We cook dinner on the stove or on the grill (this place has no microwave and we don't feel like buying one, so we are making due) and then we have these little fold out camping chairs that we sit on to eat. We eat with styrofoam plates and plastic silverware. We don't have any kind of table at all. We did buy a couple of plastic cups, sharp knives, and a new skillet because we forgot those at home and couldn't live without them.

Most of the time we are either sitting outside on our back porch on plastic chairs that we bought at Walmart, or we are hanging out in bed on our laptops watching Netflix. We don't have a TV so our laptop is making due for now!

Clothes wise, we also don't have a dresser or any kind of stand at all. Luckily, there are numerous closets in the house. I hang up mostly all of my stuff, and the rest we just lay in organized piles on the floor. We have a big cardboard box that we put our underwear and socks in.

We are definitely "roughing" it, but I actually don't mind this lifestyle. I guess i'm so used to it from moving place to place and having nothing in college that this really isn't that different. It is kinda sad to know that we have all of this brand new stuff at home and we are out here living the way we are, but we honestly don't mind. I haven't complained once! (you can ask Trev.) I think this will be an experience that we will look back on in the future and laugh.

So, you can see the two camping chairs in this pic. We eat all of our dinners in those! Also, the entire house is made up of tile just like this. Our feet get dirty super easy, but at least Timber isn't ripping up any carpet.
