Kitchen plans

Being home for the next 3 months, we definitely have some spare time on our hands. Not complaining though ;-) After our first week of being home, I've realized that not only do I have a ton of time to do projects, but I also have a little bit of money saved up to do these projects. Instead of trying to do a little bit in each room of the house, i'm going to just focus my efforts on the kitchen.

Here's our kitchen again:

Again, this kitchen is pretty lovely, but it doesn't reflect my personality.
I want to update it to give it more of a farmhouse feel with industrial/modern touches.

Here's what i'm planning to do to it in the next couple months:

- Update the light fixtures. I need a pendant for over the sink, and a new chandelier for over the dining table. If there is enough money in the budget, that ceiling fan will get a makeover too.

- Take down all of the upper cabinets on the window side and replace them with open shelving. (I am SO excited about this!)

- Take down cabinets above the stove, build a custom DIY range hood cover. I'm eyeing up tutorials like this one and this one.

- Put up a tile backsplash.

- Paint the cabinets. I'm still trying to decide on a color. I think I will wait until the backsplash is installed to really get a feel for what looks best.

- Update the outlets to white, because they are currently all almond colored.

- Update the cabinet hardware if the budget allows.

- Install a shiplap accent wall behind the dining table here:

- Update the trim, because right now it is brown colored and plastic.

- On the side of the kitchen where we are keeping all of the upper cabinets, I want to put glass in two of the cabinet doors to give it more of an open feel. I'm checking out this tutorial, which makes it sound totally budget friendly and do-able.

Things I wish I could do, but will have to wait until we start working again:
- Install a new faucet and farmhouse sink.

- New floors.

- New dining room table and chairs.

- New counters. I love the quartz ones that look like marble.

Trevor and the guys will be going away this weekend for a bachelor party so i'm going to start then! Anyone wanna come over and help? ;-) stay tuned for updates!
