Ireland: Oyster Shuck Off and Cliffs of Moher
This day in Ireland was probably my favorite day of our entire trip.
We started our day in Galway. We woke up and walked to a local breakfast place for some coffee and we tried our very first scones. They were delicious! I'm determined to figure out how to make those exact ones at home now.
After breakfast we were walking down a street in Galway when we walked past a barber shop. I told Trevor that he should get his head shaved by a professional because he never splurges on himself like that. So he went in and enjoyed getting pampered :-)
While Trevor was getting his head shaved, I walked around Galway and enjoyed looking in the little shops and stores. The energy in town was so much fun.. music was playing everywhere and the streets were bustling with people.
After Trev was done, we left Galway to head to an Oyster Shuck Off Workshop that I booked online. It was about an hour away. We were really excited about it because we LOVE oysters and they usually are so freaking expensive. So we were ready to eat our weight in them and get out money's worth!
The oyster farm was right on the shore. It was super cloudy and rainy, but we were inside. We got to see the pools where they kept the oysters inside, learned about the history of oyster farming in Ireland, learned which ones we could eat that were in season and which ones were off limits, and then we learned how to shuck an oyster ourselves.
Trevor and I ate so many oysters we lost count. We were given wine as well along with toppings for the oysters. The owner, Garry, kept pouring more and more wine into my glass. He was fun to listen to as he had a thick Irish accent. The oysters were really salty, but good! It was such a fun experience.
After oysters, we drove to the Cliffs of Moher. I read online about a "secret" way to go to the cliffs that is off the beaten path. We drove past the touristy part of the cliffs where TONS of people were, and we went to the other side of the cliffs. We were able to park in a little lot for 2 euros (opposed to 20 on the other end) and then walked to the cliffs from the other side. There were barely any people there and we got to enjoy the cliffs without a crowd around!
The view was amazing and exactly like you would imagine it!
I'm deathly afraid of heights and Trevor likes to freak me out my doing stuff like this right on the ledge!! I had a small panic attack.
Life is so much fun with him!
On the walk back to the car we passed a lot of cows and Trevor acted like he never saw them before:
We headed back to Galway, driving our car over winding hills and fields. When we got back it was late, and all of the restaurants were packed. Apparently you need reservations for most places in that town, so we got the brick oven pizza again for supper. It was good, so we weren't complaining! We went to bed early again that night in preparations for another long day in the morning as we were going to be driving back to Dublin from Galway.
