Welcome to my 3rd and final installment of our honeymoon posts! It is taking me a while to get through these! (Not that they're not fun to write, but my life has been so busy lately!)
Trevor and I spent our entire time on the Big Island of Hawaii for our honeymoon. The Big Island is the only island that has an actual active volcano on it so obviously it was on our list of things to see! Thanks to suggestions from Trevor's cousin Jess and his wife Megan who had just been to Hawaii on their honeymoon, we decided to take a bike tour around Volcanoes National Park and learn more about it.
We found a bike tour that featured a guide that took you around the park on bicycles, then stopped for lunch at the end. It was a great way to view the park and learn more about the history of the island, the culture, and other tidbits that we wouldn't have learned on our own.
The tour started out at the crater of the volcano where you can see steam rising up from the lava. At night you can see the glow from the lava at this spot.
From there, we biked around the crater of the volcano.
We saw various places of old lava flow and learned about the different eruptions. We saw tons of lava rock and learned about the different types.
We learned about how lava tubes are formed and got to walk through one:
At the end of our tour, we ended at the cliffs where the lava flow has emptied into the ocean. We got to see this beautiful sea arch:
Overall it was such a fun experience and one of my favorite things we did on our honeymoon!
The last days on the island were then spent eating more delicious food, drinking the local Kona beer, and relaxing by the pool/ocean. It overall was one of the best trips I've ever taken, and Hawaii is so beautiful. It felt like you were in a different world.
Can we go on a second honeymoon? ;-)
