So we
woke up extra early in Nashville because Timber started barking in
the middle of the night at people he heard in the hallway. We had him
in his crate because the last thing we needed was him destroying
something in the hotel. So, Timber was our little alarm clock and we
hit the road early. Trevor started driving again.
About
2.5 hours into our drive, we get a call from the hotel in Nashville
that they found Trevor's driver's license at their main desk. I guess
when Trevor checked in the night before, he handed the guy his ID and
then the guy went and got the room keys for him and gave him the
keys, but not his ID back. And Trevor didn't realize it. We started
panicking, because we needed his ID the next day when we were going
to check into a hotel in Texas, and there was NO way we were turning
around because that would have added an extra 5 hours on to the trip.
No bueno, guys. After many ideas went through our heads from getting
my aunt and uncle to overnight it, to staying an extra night in
Arkansas, we finally decided to call the hotel to see if there was
any possible way they could overnight it to Texas for us. They did,
thankfully. Of course, they added the overnight fee to our card even
though it was THEIR mistake – not ours. We were just thankful that
we didn't have to turn around.
Right
after the card incident, we stopped at a McDonalds where Trevor
FINALLY decided to let me drive. I practiced driving the Jeep (stick
shift and all) plus the trailer attached around the parking lot.
Finally, when Trevor decided I was competent enough, we hit the
highway ;-)
Almost
instantly, the country roads we were driving on disappeared and I was
now driving on a 4-5 lane highway headed into Memphis. There were
accidents everywhere and I had to merge several times, WITH a trailer
attached to the back, and this was my first time learning to drive
this thing. I was basically freaking out, but alas, we made it out of
the traffic jam alive and well. But that was one heck of a way to
learn to drive a jeep with a trailer on the back.
We
drove through hours of corn fields and nothing after that, which was
very boring, but eventually we made in to Bentonville where our
friends Ty and Emily live. They actually were getting ready to move
to Colorado in a couple days, but were so nice and welcomed us in
with open arms. They had a house with a fenced in yard where Timber
and their dog Kaiya played outside. It was nice just letting Timber
go and he could get out some of that energy from riding in the car
all day.
While
Timber and Kaiya played, we went out to dinner with Ty and Emily at a
local brewery where we met all of their friends. We drank local brews
and ate the most delicious pizza ever that I'm still dreaming about.
Afterwards,
we hung out at their house, helped them move some stuff onto their
moving truck, and caught up a little bit. It was so nice to stay and
just catch up.
We
put Timber in his crate that night and we slept next door on air
mattresses. Timber was NOT having it in the crate. He barked for
about 10 minutes before he finally went to sleep, which is something
he never does. We were aiming to wake up and leave around 6am the
next morning, but Timber started barking again at 4:30am so we just
got up and left, because we felt bad that he was waking our friends
up at such an early time.
And we
were OFF to Texas y'all!
