White Sands, NM

One stop on our New Mexico bucket list was the White Sands National Park. It is about two hours away from here, but that is “close” in western terms. Everything out here is a couple hours apart at least. It doesn't seem too bad though because most roads around here are highways where the speed limit is 75mph.

We went in the middle of the day and it was HOT. Like 95 degrees. I tried to persuade Trevor to go in the evening, but he wasnt having it ;) When we first got there, we stopped at the information center. We knew it was going to be scorching whenever the man at the information center told Trevor that we needed to buy at least 2 gallons of water to survive the heat in the park. Also, we bought a sled and some wax to try out sledding on the dunes!

We drove into the park and there was an 8 mile loop road where you just drive, and then you can pull over at numerous pull offs and just walk on the dunes and sled.

The sands were absolutely beautiful, it was like a dream. I couldn't believe how unreal it was. Just white sand for miles and miles. I guess that the white sands are located in between two mountain ranges and there used to be a large body of water (a lake?) there thousands of years ago, that's how the sand got there. However it got there, it was amazing.

We drove around looking for the biggest sand dune we could find to sled on. It was a lot of fun sledding, and Timber loved the sand too! The park wasn't too busy so when we stopped to explore, we couldn't see anyone else for miles. We let Timber run free in the sand and he had a blast.

And I'll end this post with a video of me sledding down the dunes while Timber chases me, and then wipes out at the end haha.
